Your Unique Taxpayer Reference number (UTR number) is a ten-digit number that can be found on documents from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), such as:

  • Your previous tax return(s)
  • Notices to file a tax return
  • Your payment reminders

If you cannot find your UTR number and you are self employed or in a partnership, you can request your UTR number from the Self Assessment Helpline.

If you have lost your UTR number and you are a limited company, you will need to request your Corporation Tax UTR using the online form here.

Read our FAQ here on what is a UTR number.
