HMRC tax app downloaded 250,000 times

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has announced that its tax app, one that gives people more information on how rates are used and calculated, has now been downloaded by 250,000 people.

The department also delivers updated spending information, explanations of each spending category and the ability to enter tax codes.

Furthermore, people using the technology are also able to access the app to find out more details about what income has been charged and at what rate.

David Gauke, Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, explained that it is another way in which HMRC is delivering information to people.

"Taxpayers have a right to know how their money is spent. The calculator is an excellent way to bring transparency into the tax system. With so many people downloading the app, we can see that there is a real appetite to know where taxpayers' hard-earned money is spent," he noted.

Meanwhile, the department is warning small businesses to ensure their VAT returns are up to date as it gets ready to launch a crackdown.
