Firms intending to recruit in Q1 2013, research shows

Small businesses plan to recruit more workers at the start of next year, according to new research that paints the jobs market in a positive light.

Manpower UK, the recruitment firm, found that the labour market is in a stronger state that at any time since the recession started four years ago, with more businesses looking to take on staff in the first three months of next year than at any time recently.

But experts are warning that many of the positions being created are part-time vacancies as the jobs market continues to struggle in the face of a tough economy.

Mark Cahill, Manpower's UK managing director, explained that this jobs crisis is much more different this time.

"We should not get carried away - today's jobs market lacks the dynamism we saw before 2008 with the vast majority of UK firms continuing to sit on their hands," he added.

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation also found earlier this week that demand for temporary staff is on the rise.
