Energy investment programme can create 'thousands of jobs'

Focussing on energy efficiency and putting money into reducing carbon footprints would create thousands of new jobs in small businesses and other firms.

That is according to Consumer Focus, which believes the UK's Gross Domestic Product could also increase by 0.2 per cent every year if an energy efficiency programme is put into place.

Furthermore, the report suggests that overall carbon emissions could be reduced by 1.1 per cent, while 71,000 jobs could follow by 2015.

Ed Matthew, the Director of the Energy Bill Revolution campaign, said: "The Energy Bill Revolution is the biggest fuel poverty alliance that has ever been formed in the UK.

"We are united by our conviction that there is a financial solution which can end the suffering and generate more jobs than any equivalent investment."

Meanwhile, the Confederation of British Industry believes that greater investment in transport infrastructure could lead to greater business growth in the coming years.
