APSCo: Temporary job placement numbers increasing

Temporary workers are providing small businesses with an increasingly flexible resource as the UK economy continues to struggle, according to new research.

The Association of Professional Staffing Companies (APSCo) revealed that the banking and law sector, in particular, are turning to contractors and others to cope with spikes in demand.

Furthermore, the Independent reports that media and marketing sectors are also looking to temporary employees, with placements up four per cent in the year to October.

APSCo chief executive Ann Swain is quoted by the news provider as saying: "Businesses still don't have the confidence to make permanent hires when they can use temporary staff instead.

"Hopefully, the UK's recent positive GDP figures will prove to be a shot in the arm for UK professional service firms and lead to more confident permanent hiring of staff."

It comes after the Venn Group, which provides contract staff to UK firms, revealed that temporary job numbers increased by three per cent in the last quarter.
