Assistant Accountant

Based in Wolverhampton.

Key Accountabilities:

This is a team role based at both the Kingswinford and Wolverhampton offices. Accountable for bookkeeping, accounts preparation for Self-employed and Limited Companies, VAT returns, Self-Assessment Tax Returns and Corporation Tax computations for clients:


Bookkeeping and Accounts Preparation

  • Use of various software packages (QuickBooks, Sage, KashFlow, Xero etc.) to produce monthly and quarterly management accounts
  • Production of client annual accounts
  • Ensuring accounts are prepared to deadlines and the client is effectively and professionally communicated with at all times


Payroll and Auto Enrolment

  • Supervising the processing of client’s payroll (weekly and monthly)


VAT Returns and Tax Computations

  • Production and submission of VAT returns
  • Production and submission of Self-Assessment Tax returns and computations
  • Production and submission of Corporation Tax computations and returns


Management of Client Time and Maintenance internal systems

  • Update and completion of client time
  • Ensuring all software  is maintained with all reports, documents and client working papers and correspondence


Client Invoicing

  • Ensuring clients are invoiced in accordance with work carried out


Ad hoc Accountabilities

  • Liaising with the team and outsourced services where required
  • Attending training courses and technical updates where required
  • Answering the telephone, taking messages and directing calls to the appropriate team member
  • Meeting clients when arriving at the offices
  • Involvement in providing fee proposals to clients
  • Ad hoc tasks as required by the business


Skills and Qualities Required:

  • Experienced in bookkeeping, accounts preparation, tax and VAT etc.
  • Confidence in using a range of software packages and taking on board new software tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to process information accurately
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to manage own workload and work both independently and as part of the team
  • Strong communication skills and professional at all times with clients and colleagues
  • Proactive in the role and demonstrates effective follow through to completion of the task
  • Positive attitude and commitment
