Accessibility
We acknowledge that there is a tremendous diversity in communication methods, technologies and individual abilities of users within the online community. And we recognise that it is our responsibility to be as inclusive as possible: all visitors to our site are important.
This site has been developed following the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 1, published by an international standards organisation called W3C. We meet all of the elements from Level A and a selection from both Level AA and Level AAA.
The guidelines include:
- Using meaningful ALT text for all images to provide descriptive text
- Using descriptive hyperlink text
- Avoiding the use of frames, which are difficult for special browsers to interpret
- Provide navigational short cuts for users of text only browsers and page readers
- Using an easy-to-see web colour scheme
- Using an easy to read font type, size and colour.
Text Size
Most of the text on the site can be resized to suit personal preference, you can change it easily in your browser settings. To adjust your browser's settings go to the Tools menu, selecting 'text size', 'text zoom' or 'zoom' and increasing the size of the text.
- If you use Microsoft Internet Explorer, go to the View menu, select Text Size and then either Larger or Largest.
- If you use Mozilla Firefox, scroll the net bar to increase/decrease the text size.
- If you use Netscape Navigator, go to the View menu and choose 'Increase Font' until the text is the size you require.
Navigation
Making web sites easy to use goes further than just colour and fonts; we work hard to make sure our content is easy-to-read and easy-to-navigate, taking into consideration customers who use a variety of assisted technologies.
We have provided a site map to make finding your way around easier.
Our main navigation options have been assigned keyboard access keys for users who don't use pointing devices (such as a mouse).
Keyboard Access Keys:
Instead of using your mouse to navigate the site, the main sections of the site can be accessed by pressing the relevant key on your keyboard (In Internet Explorer, hold down 'Alt', then choose a number, and press 'Enter' to be taken to the selected page).
