Small firms face extra taxation burden

Date: 4th February 2009

Small businesses - such as limited companies - are facing the prospect of additional taxationSmall businesses are facing an additional taxation burden if new legislation is passed, it has been claimed.

As reported in nebusiness.co.uk, companies in the north-east of England are growing increasingly concerned regarding the proposed Business Rates Supplement Bill.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) believes that if the legislation is passed in its current form, it would introduce further pressure on British commerce.

North-east regional chairman for the FSB, Colin Stratton, told nebusiness.co.uk: "We have been fortunate that in the north-east our small business community have battled through some testing times with great vigour and success.

"It seems ultimately counterproductive to introduce any new tax."

He added that the group was "concerned" little consideration had been given for the region's business community.

An account manager for the advisory service Business Link earlier this month claimed that businesses were showing resilience and invention during the downturn.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
