Plumbing firms issued HMRC warning

Time is running out for plumbers, HMRC warnsPlumbing contractors, as well as heating engineers and gas fitters, have been issued with a reminder from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

The department has told such workers that if they intend to make use of the favourable terms currently being offers with regard to unpaid taxes, they have just one week left to register.

HMRC is offering reduced penalties to those working in the trade that have yet to come forward about unpaid taxes of disclose their full income.

However, the chance to make use of the offer is running out, with the department insisting that interested parties be registered by May 31st at the latest.

Mike Wells, HMRC's director of risk and intelligence, said: "If you owe tax but haven't yet heard from HMRC, do not assume that we will not catch up with you.

"Plumbers, gas fitters and heating engineers whose tax affairs are not in order need to contact HMRC now and fully disclose their income. This will allow them to take advantage of a reduced penalty."
