Number of road taxation evaders plummets

Date: 18th December 2008

The number of British drivers not paying road taxation has plunged in the last year, according to new government statistics.

Figures published by the department for transport show that only one per cent of motorists are not paying the tax, representing a 40 per cent decline over 2007's data.

While the department suggested it was pleased with the results, it stated that it was determined to clamp down on those who refuse to pay road tax.

Jim Fitzpatrick, transport minister, commented: "The vast majority of motorists properly license their vehicles, keep them in a good condition and make sure they are full insured.

"We are not complacent and will continue to take action against those who fail to license their vehicles. There is no way out for tax evaders."

The results of a an investigation by XLN Telecom published this week showed that 15 per cent of small firms believed 2008's Christmas trading would be even better than last year's.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
