Last chance to claim tax relief on Euro home approaching

Date: 15th June 2009

The tax break deadline is approachingOnly a couple of weeks remain for those who let out their holiday home in Europe to claim tax breaks, according to the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA).

Hundreds of thousands of Britons own houses abroad and are entitled to the retrospective tax break that could be worth thousands of pounds.

Keith Baker, vice chairman of NAEA international, said: "The amount of tax foreign property owners may be able to reclaim could be quite significant.

"With the deadline approaching next month it is time to make a claim, if you've not already."

Eligibility for the tax break will depend on each case's circumstances.

Criteria includes the property being available for rent for at least 140 days in a 12-month period with all lets being shorter than 31 days.

The deadline for claims, which can be made by letter for as far back as the 2003-04 financial year, is July 31st.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
