LITRG issues advice for missing tax credit deadline

Date: 2nd August 2011

LITRG issues post-deadline tax credit adviceThere is still time for those who missed the tax credit renewal deadline to see their applications processed.

That is according to the Low Income Tax Reform Group (LITRG), which has issued advice to those that were too late for the July 31st cut off point.

According to the body, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will now have issued a "statement of account" to those missing the deadline.

This will tell claimants that that their payments have stopped and that the department will be asking for any funds paid since April to be returned.

The LITRG has advised claimants to contact HMRC within 30 days of receiving the statement in order to see their claim renewed and reinstated.

"Last year, HMRC extended this 30-day grace period to 60 days due to the problems some people had getting through to the helpline to renew," the body explained.

"It is not clear whether a similar extension will be given this year, therefore our advice is to respond to the statement of account within 30 days to ensure your claim is reinstated."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
