Inflatable calendar to give tax return reminder

Date: 11th January 2008

A huge inflatable calendar will be used by HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) to jog people's memory about the fast-approaching tax return deadline.

The organisation is hoping to raise Britons' awareness of the date by displaying the giant calendar - which simply reads '31 Jan' - in nine cities around the UK.

As part of a national advertising campaign beginning on Monday (January 14th), the calendar will appear at the exit to Canary Wharf tube station in London, reminding thousands of workers in one of the capital's primary financial districts about the impending deadline.

The inflatable memory aid will also be seen in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Bristol, Newcastle, Cardiff, Birmingham and Manchester over the course of the week, before finally appearing in Belfast on Monday January 21st.

According to HMRC, over nine million people submit a self assessment tax return each year. The organisation recently revealed that 500 tax returns were filed online on Christmas Day 2007.
