HMRC issues tax return reminder
Date: 2nd January 2008
British people have been urged by HM Revenue Customs (HMRC) to stay on top of their financial affairs by completing their tax return well before the January 31st deadline.
Although the deadline may still be a few weeks away, HMRC advised against leaving a self assessment tax return until the last minute and said that people may find that submitting the document online is more convenient.
There are a number of benefits of using the online filing service, according to HMRC, with this method providing an automatic tax calculation and leading to faster repayments for those who are owed money.
In addition, users can enjoy the convenience of submitting their tax information at whatever time of day or night they wish.
Data from HMRC shows that nearly 2.9 million people filed self assessment tax returns online last year, representing a 40 per cent increase on 2006.
The organisation also provides a service which allows businesses to submit their corporation tax returns over the internet, enabling small company owners to file their documents with greater security and convenience.
