HMRC issues tax credit reminder

Date: 21st July 2011

Tax credit deadline reminder issued by HMRCTax credit claimants working in the UK have been issued a deadline reminder from HMRC.

The department has moved to remind claimants that they now have just over one week to renew their claims before the July 31st deadline.

HMRC has also issued advice to claimants in order to make sure that claims are as accurate as possible and has issued a warning about bogus email scams that may appear in the run up to the deadline.

Claimants are also urged to take care when renewing tax credits as errors could mean they receive less money than they are entitled to.

In addition, HMRC has alerted claimants to a surge of fake 'phishing' emails sent out by fraudsters in the run-up to the tax credits renewal deadline," the department said.

"Emails inform recipients that they are due a tax rebate, and provide a click-through link to a cloned replica of the HMRC website. Recipients are asked to provide credit or debit card details. Fraudsters then try to take money from their accounts."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
