HMRC establishes tax academy

HMRC establishes tax academy HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has established an academy to ensure the maintenance of high standards among accountants.

The tax body will now allow its accountants to obtain Tax Professional Qualifications accredited by Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU).

Mike Falvey, chief people officer at HMRC, commented: "I think this is a great opportunity for HMRC and our tax professionals, to achieve a step-change in our approach to developing our capability, improving our service to customers and stakeholders and being recognised as the centre of tax professionalism in the UK."

According to the tax body, the training will provide external recognition and validity for the department's own Higher level Tax Qualifications by testing the knowledge and skills of HMRC employees.

Dave Hartnett, permanent secretary for tax, added that the academy will help people to benefit from "faster and better access to the skills and knowledge they need, which is vital to HMRC's success".
