HMRC announces tax evasion crackdown

Date: 21st April 2011

HMRC announce tax evasion crackdownBusiness and contractors operating in various industries across the UK could be among those interested in a recent announcement from HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC).

The government department has unveiled a more aggressive stance in an attempt to crack down on tax evasion.

In a bid to generate an additional £500 million in tax revenue, HMRC will appoint 100 extra officers.

It is hoped that the target set to be brought in by the enlarged workforce will be achieved over the course of the next four years.

David Gauke, exchequer secretary to the Treasury, said: "This government has invested £900 million in HMRC to crack down on people who break the rules.

"Expanding these teams will help make sure that we bring in the additional money that the UK needs. They aim to stop tax losses and increase tax yields by more than half a billion pounds over the next four years."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
