Green taxation report unveiled by CIOT

Date: 8th May 2009

A report discussing the future of green taxation has been publishedThe Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) has unveiled a report discussing environmental taxes in the UK.

As part of the document, it is suggested that 'green' taxation and other similar fiscal policies will play a major role in combating climate and environmental change.

It also claims that the government will likely be faced with no other choice but to introduce such measures, as activity from protestors and pressure groups "will simply not go away".

President of the CIOT, Nick Goulding, said: "The report has been published at a time when there is an ever increasing recognition that we all live in a world facing harmful environmental change.

"There has been recent political change towards tackling these problems."

Mr Goulding pointed to the example set by Barack Obama's administration in the US, which he said was "committed to negotiating a new climate change treaty".

Last month's budget saw Chancellor Alistair Darling unveil £1.4 billion in measures designed to encourage investment in sustainable energy initiatives.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
