Consumers expect to have less to spend after election, survey finds

Date: 6th May 2010

Consumers to spend less after election, says reportBusinesses operating in the UK could be among those affected by consumer confidence after today's (May 6th) election.

Voters take to the polling stations today and a result is expected to be announced in the early hours of tomorrow morning.

However, whatever the outcome, a recent survey by customer experience management specialist Empathica has revealed that just one per cent of consumers feel their financial prospects will be "brighter" following the election.

Gary Topiol, managing director at Empathica, said: "These findings show that the general election and current state of the economy is still a cause of concern for the general public and consumers are remaining cautious over their spending habits.

"Therefore it is imperative that retailers work harder to deliver outstanding customer service to help build customer advocacy and support business growth during this time."

The report also revealed that 21 per cent of the consumers who feel they will have less money to spend will be saving to cover unexpected events such as tax rises and government spending cuts.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
