Britons 'unhappy over tax'

Date: 30th June 2008

British consumers are unhappy about the extent to which they are being taxed, according to a new report.

Figures compiled on behalf of Friends Provident show that close to three-quarters of people living around the country feel resentful over the tax they pay and more than 80 per cent are convinced their taxes have risen in the past half-decade.

The financial services firm behind the research claims that on an adjusted basis the typical tax contribution of a UK consumer has increased by almost 50 per cent in the past ten years and millions of people are unhappy about it.

Peter Timberlake, head of public relations at Friends Provident commented: "It is fair to say that the UK is feeling taxed by over-taxation and we would urge people to review their finances to see if they can help better manage the tax they pay."

Earlier this month, Friends Provident released a report that claimed two-thirds of the British public has no faith in the government to resolve the pension problems currently facing the country.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
