ACCA: Govt is failing to simplify tax system

Date: 11th May 2011

Tax system still too complex, says ACCAThe UK government is failing in its attempts to deliver a simpler tax system for businesses, it has been claimed.

According to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the coalition is taking two steps back for every one step forward

Figures recently published by the organisation revealed that the government has made 200 changes to the tax code since coming into power.

This is despite the government promising to deliver a simpler more streamlined tax environment.

Chas Roy-Chowdhury, head of taxation at ACCA, told City AM: "The number of changes made means the government is taking two steps back for every one step forward in its battle to get to grips with the UK's complicated tax system."

The comments follow the recent publication of a review in to small businesses tax by the Office of Tax Simplification, which resulted in a number of changes to the UK's tax environment.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
