Taxation cuts answer to recession, says public

Date: 31st October 2008

The majority of people in the UK believe that the answer to recession is tax cuts, a poll has revealed.

A survey by the lobbyist TaxPayers' Alliance shows that 59 per cent see taxation reductions as a better solution than higher public spending.

What's more 67 per cent of respondents to the investigation believe that the country is now paying the price for overspending in the 'good years'.

Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: "The public expects politicians to take responsibility for the crisis and for the fact they left us vulnerable to this economic storm.

"People want politicians to learn the lessons from this mess and centre their response to the crisis on cutting taxes and interest rates."

Other findings in the investigation show that nearly seven out of ten people think the Bank of England should make an "immediate and substantial cut in interest rates".

Leader of the Liberal Democrats Nick Clegg earlier this week called for taxation cuts to help lower income families through the credit crisis.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
