Postcard campaign to drive home tax cut message

Date: 24th March 2009

Thousands of business managers will be sending postcards to the chancelloerAn innovative postcard campaign has been launched in a bid to convince the government to introduce automatic business taxation relief.

The drive, which has been spearheaded by the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB), is demanding that Chancellor Alistair Darling introduce the policy at the upcoming budget.

It will see potentially thousands of managers send postcards requesting more publicity for the scheme.

At present, many firms may only discover that they are eligible for taxation relief after talking to an accountant.

National chairman of the FSB, John Wright, said: "Next month's budget could be make or break for small businesses.

"With around 120 businesses going bust a day it is crucial that more is done to sustain their cashflow."

He added that the introduction of automatic rate relief could save "thousands of small businesses from closure".

Meanwhile, the Forum of Private Business has claimed that the government cannot justify using last year's inflation figures to calculate 2009's taxation increases.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
