Date: 19th January 2009

Parents have been urged to apply for a taxation rebate, if they applyParents have been advised that they should apply for a potential tax rebate now, if they qualify.

According to the Daily Express newspaper, families can claim up to £1,040 in taxation rebates in the form of tax credit relief, if they have children who were born between April 6th, 1986 and April 5th, 2003.

As well as this, any children born in this period must have been living at home for all or part of the 2002/03 year, with their parents in employment.

A spokesman for HMRC told the Daily Express: "The majority of customers have already received their payment. But check with us if you are unsure."

He added that some firms were offering to make such a claim on your behalf for a fee, although it was important to take care when handing the responsibility to a third-party.

For businesses and self-employed individuals, the final date for submitting a self-assessment tax return is January 31st.
