Miliband: 'It's game on' for tax cuts

Date: 10th November 2008

The foreign secretary David Miliband has hinted at taxation cuts for those on low incomes, it has been reported.

An article in the Independent newspaper suggests that chancellor Alistair Darling will introduce the reduced rates of taxation later this month at his pre-budget report.

Expected to be funded through an increase in government borrowing, the newspaper also anticipates a rise in the winter fuel allowance.

Speaking to the BBC in the wake of the party's victory at the Glenrothes by-election, Mr Miliband commented: "There's a sense of game on, game on … [as we] react to the international and domestic economy."

Leader of the opposition, David Cameron, has hinted at his own taxation cuts while stating that he would not add to government borrowing.

Last week, the government urged banks to pass on the recent reduction in the base rate, while admitting that it could not force lenders to do so.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
