Govt hints at taxation cuts

Date: 10th November 2008

The government has dropped its strongest hint yet that taxation cuts could be on the horizon.

Speaking to GMTV, the prime minister Gordon Brown revealed that government was preparing to lower taxation in a bid to get the economy up and running.

In an interview with GMTV, the prime minister said: "I am determined … to get all countries around the world trying to get their economies moving again, and one way you can do that is by putting more money into the economy by tax cuts or by public spending rises."

He added that his government would be looking into these possibilities within the next few weeks.

During the interview, Mr Brown also revealed that the hotly anticipated pre-budget report would be arriving "in the next few days".

It is likely that any cut in taxation would be welcomed by the business start-up sector, which has this year encountered rising bank charges and changes to the self-assessment tax return system.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
