Tax system 'is in need of simplification'

Date: 24th May 2011

Tax is a bigger problem for smaller firms, expert claimsSmall business owners operating in various industries across the UK could be among those interested in the recent comments of one industry body.

Churchouse Financial Planning has claimed that the UK's tax system would benefit from being simplified.

Keith Churchouse, director of the organisation, said it is often the case that smaller businesses have bigger problems when it comes to tax returns.

The comments could encourage a number of small enterprises to seek the assistance of a specialist tax accountancy service.

"Many people find the tax system confusing and unfortunately confusion creates the opportunity to avoid paying," Mr Churchouse explained.

"That should not be the case, so my view is yes, there is some merit to simplifying the tax system. If they do they will hopefully make it more understandable; the merit for HM Revenue & Customs of making it more understandable is that they may get a better cash flow."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
