Paper tax return deadline passes

Date: 1st November 2011

Online filing is now the only option for tax returnsTaxpayers around the UK can no longer file their tax returns on paper and must instead adhere to the online deadline in order to avoid picking up a penalty.

Yesterday (October 31st) was the last chance to send paper returns to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) in order to avoid a £100 fine.

As such, tax returns must now be filed online by January 31st.

Those who are new to online filing may be tempted to seek the assistance of a speciality accountancy service to show them the ropes and ensure that all their tax affairs are in order.

HMRC is keen to see more people switching to online filing and as such has highlighted some of the benefits of doing so.

According to the department, filing a tax return electronically means taxpayers have more time to go through their bookkeeping.

They will also see their taxes automatically calculated, receive instant acknowledgement of their return and have their return processed at a faster pace.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
