HMRC issues tax return alert

Date: 6th December 2010

HMRC has issued a January tax return reminderHM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has moved to remind UK taxpayers that next month represents the final opportunity for them to file their tax returns for the financial year 2009-10.

The deadline for paper filing passed in October and January 31st is now the deadline for those planning to file their tax returns online.

HMRC has issued the reminder to make sure taxpayers who are filing online for the first time are registered for the service as the process can take some time.

"If you're completing your return online for the first time, you'll first need to register for online filing. You'll immediately get a User ID and an Activation Code will be posted to you. Once you've activated your account, you can complete your tax return online," the department commented.

"It's important you register as early as possible. It can take up to seven working days to receive your Activation Code - so HMRC is urging people to register in December, to avoid a last-minute rush in January."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
