HMRC issues company tax returns reminder

Date: 3rd June 2010

HMRC issues tax return reminderHM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has issued a reminder to the UK's businesses that company tax returns for any accounting period ending after March 31st 2010 must be submitted online from April 1st 2011 onwards.

In a bid to prepare the country's firms, HMRC has also announced that it will not be sending out any blank paper return forms or guidance notes from July 1st this year.

"You'll still be able to download and print the forms from the HMRC website after July 1st 2010, but you'll have to submit your return before April 1st 2011 if you want to use paper for any accounting period ending after March 31st 2010," the department explained.

In order to submit their returns online, businesses will need to obtain HMRC's free software, or invest in other software solutions that are commercially available.

HMRC has also advised that some firms may require the assistance of a tax agent or adviser to file returns on their behalf.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
