HMRC announces online outage

Date: 5th September 2008

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has revealed that some of its online services will be disrupted on September 10th.

The government body alerted the Chartered Institute of Taxation (Ciot) to the fact that it was planning an 'outage' later in the month.

HMRC said that the move followed an unavoidable outage in August.

At the time, Ciot told HMRC that the lack of access caused some problems for a number of accountants.

"HMRC have assured us that they are aiming to keep further upgrades to the online services to periods out of normal working hours," a spokesperson from Ciot explained.

As a result of the complaint, the outage on September 10th will occur between 00:00 and 06.00.

"As this outage relates to the government gateway, users of commercial software will also be unable to file during this time but for PAYE they will still be able to view their PAYE notices, notifications and reminders," HMRC added in the statement.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
