Firms given final warning for returns deadline

Small business owners and managers have been given one final warning to remember this month's deadline for Employer Annual Returns.

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has urged employers to file their P14 and P35 documents online prior to May 19th or face a penalty.

Organisations which submit their returns through HMRC's website before the deadline will also receive a £75 tax-free reward.

Head of the department's employers' team, Don McArthur, said: "Time is running out. File your Employer Annual Return now and avoid a late-filing penalty."

Mr McArthur added that HMRC had already received more than 27.1 million online returns in 2009 and urged small business managers not to lose out on their tax-free payment by missing the May 19th deadline.

In April, HMRC revealed that it was to spend about a quarter of its yearly budget on solving the UK's taxation evasion problems.
