Small firms urged to file online and receive £75

Date: 24th March 2009

Small businesses have been urged to file their tax return online and receive £75Small businesses have been encouraged to file their Employer Annual Return online and receive £75 from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC).

Firms which employ 50 employees or less are eligible for the promotion, although they must first register with the department's PAYE Online for Employers programme.

For further information on how to file online, managers or owners should considering consider consulting their local accountant or taxation advisor.

Sue Williams, a spokeswoman for HMRC, commented: "We are accepting returns now and would urge all employers to send them in as soon as they are ready, to avoid any last minute rush."

Employer Annual Returns must be filed by May 19th or businesses could be subject to late submission penalties.

Earlier in March, HMRC announced that it had reduced the amount of interest charged on late tax returns payments and that applied to overpayments.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
