IMRG identifies business sectors set for online shopping growth

Date: 27th June 2008

Electronic retailing body the IMRG has identified those sectors with the best potential for growth in the field of online retailing.

David Smith, the director of operations with the IMRG, believes that - in the field of internet shopping - the fashion and clothing sectors have the greatest potential for growth.

However, a number of fashion retailers - such as Ted Baker and New Look - have only recently moved retail operations online.

"I think that was a perception that certainly existed up until quite recently that people would want to touch and feel, but it never seemed to affect any of the catalogues that were selling clothing products," said Mr Smith.

Mr Smith also noted that retailers have come to the conclusion that the sales performance of catalogue shopping could be duplicated within an internet shopping experience.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
