Female entrepreneurs 'more skilled than ever'

Date: 1st April 2009

Female-run business start-ups are becoming more commonplaceFemale-led business start-ups are becoming more commonplace than ever before, it has been claimed.

What's more, the UK's recession has helped women to set up their own companies, according to the everywoman, a training and support provider for female entrepreneurs.

Director of the organisation, Karen Gill, claims that the economic downturn could see huge numbers of women leave their current jobs to launch their own business start-up.

She said: "When job security is at risk, many people look to enterprise and self-employment and as women are more skilled than ever before, starting up your own business is a more viable option."

Ms Gill added that "increased focus" on support measures for businesses from independent groups and the government had also encouraged women to "go it alone".

Statistics published by Barclays last month showed that more than 436,500 business start-ups were formed in 2008, up from 432,300 the previous year.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
