Downturn making self-employment 'more attractive'

Date: 28th November 2011

Downturn makes starting a business more attractive, says expertA number of Britons could be tempted to start up new businesses following the comments of one industry expert.

According to Dr Dianne Bown-Wilson, small business advisor and age management specialist at in my prime, self-employment is a more attractive option at present, given the financial difficulties the country is facing.

The expert claimed that with jobs in short supply a number of people could be tempted to go it alone.

This could lead a number of taxpayers to seek the advice of a specialist accountancy service before deciding to start their own firm.

"Obviously during an economic downturn when jobs are in short supply, self-employment becomes a more attractive choice for those who may be struggling to find work or to change jobs," Dr Bown-Wilson commented.

"There are a number of advantages to setting up in business when times are hard, including the fact that it is possible to win business on a strategy of offering lower prices and a better and more flexible level of service in comparison to larger competitors."
