UK demand for IT services to increase, says report

Date: 27th April 2010

UK demand for IT services set to increase, says IDCSole traders and small businesses offering IT services in the UK could benefit from the country's "higher propensity" to outsource, it has been claimed.

A recently-released report from the International Data Corporation (IDC), a leading market intelligence organisation, has claimed that demand for IT services will pick up in the UK, Germany and the Nordics at a quicker rate than the rest of western Europe.

The firm's study showed that whilst total demand for IT services will "remain flat" in 2010 the western European market is expected to see annual growth of 3.4 per cent between 2010 and 2014.

Laura Converso, research manager of IDC European software and services, said: ''Demand for projects and outsourcing will pick up towards the second half of 2010, though new technologies and strong price pressure will limit the market's capacity to recover.

"We expect the 'growth agenda' to return slowly, bringing investments in business intelligence and industry-specific solutions, as well as the global rollout of applications, when these solutions can support business growth, towards the end of the year."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
