Sole traders urged to supply terms and conditions

Date: 20th July 2010

Sole traders urged to include list of terms and conditions with quotesSole traders operating in a number of UK industries could be among those to benefit from new advice with regard to issuing quotes.

Insurance firm Blyth Valley has urged contractors to include a list of terms and conditions with all quotes issued to prospective clients.

According to the firm, this will help sole traders and other enterprises avoid disputes with clients later down the line.

The firms described a well-written list of terms and conditions as an "essential part" of a contractor's toolkit.

"Terms and conditions don't have to be lengthy or complex. One page on the back of a quote or purchase order can often suffice and, as long as you can prove that you've presented the customer with your terms, you don't necessarily need them to return a signed copy," it commented.

Blythe Valley added that such lists can clarify the business relationship between sole traders and the clients and enhance the professional image of a contractor.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
