Sole traders urged to ensure contract completion

Date: 12th July 2010

Sole traders urged to ensure contracts are completeSole traders working in the UK could be among those to benefit from new advice issued by one business expert with regard to contracts.

Gary Cousins, a solicitor at Cousins Business Law, has urged contractors to ensure that all sections of a contract are completed before they start work.

The advice was issued in response to an individual who used advice website Contractor UK's Expert Answer series to question whether to start work after realising the Statement of Work section of his contract had been left blank.

Mr Cousins said: "It is dangerous to sign a contract that has not been fully completed and leave it for someone else to fill in later, despite what your agent might say.

"My advice is to go back to the agent and ask them to complete this part of the contract. If it is the case that the work detail isn't yet known, then they should amend the contract to make this clear."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
