Report highlights London and south-east as IT hotspots

Date: 9th July 2010

London and south-east are home to UK's IT jobs hotspotsSole traders working in the UK's IT industry could be encouraged to move to London and the south-east to look for work.

New research from ReThink Recruitment has revealed that despite many experts saying IT work would tail off in the capital and surrounding areas during the recession, the amount of work in the region has actually increased.

According to the study, London and the south-eat of England accounted for 64 per cent of England's IT vacancies in June this year.

The figure marks an improvement on the pre-recession level of 58 per cent two years ago.

Michael Bennett, director at ReThink Recruitment, explained: "The financial crisis has prompted significant investment in compliance and risk management systems in the banking sector. We have seen a substantial increase in demand for candidates skilled in these areas.

"The wave of mergers between financial institutions brought about by the credit crunch has fuelled demand for IT candidates in London and the south-east to handle post-merger integration of banking IT systems."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
