IT sole trader hiring on the rise

Date: 19th July 2010

Report shows increase in IT contractor offersSole traders working in the UK's information technology (IT) sector could be among those encouraged by a new report.

Figures recently published by pre-employment screening specialist Powerchex have revealed that employment offers for IT contractors across the country increased significantly last month.

According to the report, the number of job offers increased by 320 per cent between May and June.

The firm said the rise coincides with an increase in recruitment activity in the investment banking industry, which is "highly correlated" with the IT sector.

It said the approval of more technology-based projects in the industry has led to increased demand for sole traders and other contractors with IT skills.

Alexandra Kelly, managing director of Powerchex, said: "Fears of a double-dip recession are beginning to dissipate.

"Recruitment in the financial sector has generally flattened in the last quarter, but IT contractor hiring shows signs of another round of optimism in investment banking this summer."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
