Cuts will 'increase need for flexible staff'

Date: 25th May 2010

Cuts could lead to increased use of flexible staff, says RECThe public sector spending cuts recently announced by the Treasury could lead to an increased need for flexible staffing measures, it has been claimed.

According to the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC), the public sector could benefit from adopting a more flexible approach to working in the wake of the Treasury's spending cuts.

This could come as good news to a number of sole traders who rely on the public sector for regular placements.

The comments come after the government announced £6.25 billion worth of spending cuts, including an £863 million reduction the business department's funding, in a bid to reduce the public deficit.

REC director of external affairs Tom Hadley, said: "There will be huge changes in the way that public services are delivered. In the mid and longer term, these will require a greater need for flexible staffing rather than less.

"The reality is that there are real benefits in being able to 'flex' staffing requirements to meet peaks in demand and avoid undue pressure on the permanent workforce."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
