Contractors vote for HMRC split

Date: 30th September 2010

Should HMRC be split into two departments?HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) should be split into separate departments in order to create a simpler system.

That is according to a recently-published poll by PCG, the organisation formerly known as the Professional Contractors Group.

PCG held the poll and found that 71 per cent of its members feel that HMRC should be spilt into two divisions, one for revenue and one for customs.

Just 15.6 per cent of PCG members voted for HMRC to remain in its current state, while 13.4 per cent were undecided.

"This poll provoked an interesting debate on the forums with the 'no camp' arguing that whilst waste should be cut, splitting them up will not mean anything improves, but will merely add turmoil into the process," the organisation said.

"One proposal was to go a stage further and suggest a three way split and others intimated that the route of the problem was in the complexities of the tax system."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
