Young Britons working 'increasingly long hours'

Date: 13th June 2008

Younger employees are working increasingly long hours, it has been claimed.

According to data released by American Express Insurance Services, not only are younger Britons working for long periods, they are in a position where aspects of their home life are slipping.

Indeed, 15 per cent of respondents in their twenties - who make use of portable technology - admitted to having problems letting go of work in their own personal time.

"Young working Brits have a lot of pressures and face a lot of choices in today's busy working life. The more choices they have, the less time they end up having," said Chris Rolland, head of American Express Insurance Services.

The company also found that 44 per cent of those between 20 and 30 did not have time for themselves. However, for older individuals over the age of 50, the figure was lower at 26 per cent.

American Express was established in 1850.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
