Workers advised to focus on CPD

Date: 13th January 2010

Righttrack has said skills will boost employee confidenceContinuous professional development (CPD) has been recommended as a key priority for workers in 2010.

Management consultancy firm Righttrack said that people should make it their new year's resolution to boost their skills and improve their knowledge.

The firm added that businesses should invest in staff development because it improves workers' confidence, makes the company seem more credible and encourages staff engagement.

Gemma Middleton, marketing manager at Righttrack, said: "Skills development is a powerful people management tool and at Righttrack we believe in providing an all-round, supportive learning environment."

She added: "We believe that learning and development will play a key role in the recovery of the UK economy and those that encourage all types of skill development from the off will be the ones who will reap the benefits."

A report from the Chartered Management Institute, published in December, revealed that 45 per cent of companies in the UK are planning to focus on improving employee skills and learning this year.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
