Will lower earnings see Brits set up new businesses?

Date: 26th October 2011

Brits earnings decreaseBritons working in a wide range of industries have seen their earning potential dwindle in recent years, according to a new report.

Data recently published by GMB has revealed that the annual average earnings for full-time workers in 284 different occupations declined between April 2007 and September 2011.

The news could inspire a number of individuals to set up a new business in order to gain greater control over their earning potential.

According to Paul Kenny, GMB general secretary, the findings of the report indicate that the coalition's strategy for an economic recovery is "in tatters".

"George Osborne has the economic literacy of a stick of rhubarb. Everyone from plasterers to IT specialists, from travel agents to midwives, from hairdressers to police inspectors have seen the value of their earnings drop when they have a job," he explained.

"It has got a lot worse in the past year as the recovery underway at the time of the election stalled."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
