Treasury takes 'lending road show' to north-east

Date: 17th April 2009

Tony McNulty has advised businesses on government lending schemesThe government's drive to increase awareness on business lending schemes has arrived in the north-east of England.

As part of the Durham leg of the road show, officials will explain how cashflow pressures can be eased through programmes such as the Enterprise Finance Guarantee.

Advisers from the Business Link service will also be on hand to provide small firms with advice on how to secure finance from lenders during the recession.

Minister for employment, Tony McNulty, said: "I know that many local businesses are feeling the pressure, as cashflow has become tighter and access to credit has been squeezed."

Managers and owners looking for detailed information on which government lending schemes apply to them can find out by speaking to their local accountant.

Figures published by the British Bankers' Association earlier this month showed that small business lending increased to £211 million during February.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
