Stress is depleting UK workforces, report shows.

Date: 3rd November 2011

Stress is impacting the UK businesses, report showsSmall business owners around the UK could be among those struggling to cope with the effects of stress, it has been suggested.

According to recently-published research from The Curve Group, 62 per cent of UK businesses have seen stress-related absence increase in the last two years.

Furthermore, 75 per cent of the businesses asked claimed that recruiting top talent is challenging at present.

These two trends combined can lead to additional pressures for businesses as depleted workforces are more likely to suffer from stress.

Lyndsey Simpson, co-owner of the organisation, said: "These figures indicate some of the challenges facing employers in times of economic uncertainty.

"Redundancies or headcount freezes put pressure on the remaining workforce, leading to increased levels of stress."

Data from the report also indicated that although businesses are struggling to fill roles, economic uncertainty means that just one in ten firms are willing to offer higher salaries in order to attract staff.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
