Small firms 'should take up London 2012 business'

Date: 27th July 2010

London 2012Small businesses have been urged to take advantage of the many opportunities the Olympic Games will offer in two years' time.

Lloyd's Banking Group said that the London 2012 Organising Committee is spending some £700 million on goods and services.

As a result, there are hundreds of thousands of contracts available for small firms to take up.

Organisations in many different sectors such as technology, logistics, security and hospitality will benefit from the opportunities the Games will create.

Chris Daniels, head of Lloyds Banking Group's London 2012 business team, said: "We are approaching the home strait. London 2012 is just two years away, but for the UK's small businesses there is still time to join the race.

"While the larger contracts have already been secured, thousands of opportunities are now opening up through the supply chain. Put simply, businesses that are already involved are now scouting for other firms to help them."

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
