Small firms 'must keep their name out there'

Date: 30th January 2009

Small businesses must do more to promote their goods and servicesSmall businesses must do all they can to promote their products and services during the economic downturn, it has been suggested.

One expert from Advantage Business Travel Management claims that firms and their goods can quickly be forgotten about in a recessionary climate if they do not travel and seek-out new customers.

Director of the company, Ken McLeod, believes that it would be short-sighted to cut back on business travel expenses at this time.

He said: "You have to keep shouting about your name or product or people tend to forget about you.

"Companies are looking very closely at their travel expenses, but they also realise that without the staff getting out there talking to customers, they will not be able to sell."

Elsewhere, small businesses - such as limited companies and partnerships - across the UK are currently busy preparing for Saturday's (January 31st) self-assessment tax return deadline.

Over the past 10 years we believed that if we wanted outstanding service we should use traditional large accountancy firms. Oh how wrong we had been! We had been charged high fees without any real value being added to the business.
